There is no official, factual answer as to why DBD lost the Stranger Things license. All answers you see on the internet are rumors and speculation. As for whether it will return, that is also another question with no concrete answer. My guess would be probably not, considering they did a big sale on all the content, bringing the license back probably wouldn’t make more money.

The license expired and Netflix chose not to renew it. I’ve heard rumors about a possible return, but really it’s just speculation.

If you’re on Steam, you can access DLC keys through online key stores, though do this at your own risk, and also the cost is like more than 40 quid

The license expired. but imo it goes much deeper than that. Netflix decided they were playing for themselves and wanted ST only for them to draw people to their platform. This is the result.

To me it’s no coincidence that ST disappeared from DBD when they launched their games division. Netflix Games launched on November 3, 2021 and ST left DBD on November 17, 2021. Two other ST mobile games were also removed from the Playstore and Apple Play to be on Netflix exclusively when the service launched, so it’s clear about holding the IP in monopoly. I don’t see how their characters still being in DBD which would still give them money would detract from this considering they’re focused on mobile gaming. Overall, I wouldn’t be surprised if the venture wasn’t the profitable gold mine they wanted and so are also considering returning to third-party licensing.
